Rebuilding (and Thank You) Empty
PostSubject: Rebuilding (and Thank You)   Rebuilding (and Thank You) EmptyThu Mar 26, 2009 5:35 am

This site is so great for people like me who feel a bit like an outsider, while loving the Triangle community. Les and I are only half-timers at our place between Narby and Buxton. When we lost everything in the fire we kept telling ourselves how lucky we are compared to fulltime residents because we have another place to live in Melbourne. I can only imagine what it's like for those of you who've lost everything and for those who've lost people they loved. But even though we're lucky we are still walking around in a daze feeling as though our hearts are broken.

Anyway, now we're sifting demolishing and doing what we can before the Grocon clean-up (we have asbestos) and I'm filling in the time working out how to go about rebuilding. I've discovered that we're going to need a planning permit because our land is "subject to inundation" so we have to get a surveyor (expensive). We need to build a new septic tank so we have to get a Land Capability survey (expensive). And I'm sure we're going to be in the worst category of fire risk so building costs are going to be much higher than just replacement of the old weatherboard house.

I'm feeling quite daunted by all this and thought sharing it with Triangle people might make me feel better! And I'd love any advice or tips (specially from anyone who has recently been through the planning/building permit process with the Murrindindi Council. Diana

Hi Diana,
Glad to see you here. The whole situation is just so overwhelming. I feel for you and everyone who's hearts are broken.
I am hoping that many of the extra costs associated with rebuilding will eventually be funded, through one avenue or another. There is so much information to sift through, and everyone has a slightly different need.
I have always found Murrindindi Shire good to work with. And I thoroughly recommend sewerage treatment plants, we have had ours for more than ten years and it works well for its intended purpose and for the garden. Good luck with your build.
Lisa
