The Department Human Services will give free childcare assistance for any families affected by fires. This is through a special Hardship Assistance Scheme and full childcare fees will be covered for 12 weeks. Ask at shire regarding Family Day care or Alexandra Baby Care.

Thanks Debra. Do you know if that offer is accessible only to people who have remained in the fire-affected areas, and also, are there places available at Alexandra Baby Care?

Childcare Assistance will give all families that have been affected by the fires even if they are not still the fire areas. It comes under the Special Childcare Assistance Scheme and is used when families are in hardship. It can also relate to those families who have had a loss of income due to the fires. If parents have lost their job because they no longer have employment due to the fire, they will also be entitled to this help. Through this scheme all fees are covered for up to twelve weeks.
Alexandra Baby Care should have places depending on the need. I know the 3 and 4 age group definitely has places.
This benifit also applies to Family Day Care and the shire would be able to provide information on Special Childcare Assistance.

Thansk Debra. I am guessing you see your Centrelink case manager to access this benefit, or ring the Centrelink hotline on 180 2211.

The Shire or Marcia at Alexandra Baby care can organize it all for families.
