How do i insert a link to another page? Empty
PostSubject: How do i insert a link to another page?   How do i insert a link to another page? EmptyThu Feb 26, 2009 2:43 pm

Welcome to our first tutorial - how do i insert a link to another page?

It's pretty easy to add a link to another webpage when posting in the Forum. You may have seen an article that other members might find interesting for example. You can just paste the address or URL for the external webpage into your meassage and the Forum software should be smart enough to add it as a link. The alternative is to add a "hyperlink" or a clickable link to your message that you can customise to give readers a more descriptive idea about what you are linking rather than a long and technical looking address. Sound complicated? Well it's not really Smile

For example you may have seen an article about mail delivery returning to Narby on The Age website that you would like to share. The URL for the story is www.theage.com.au/national/mail-delivery-a-hint-of-a-return-to-normality-20090225-8hy4.html which while poiting at the article is rather long winded and ugly Smile. To turn this address into a more concise or descriptive hyperlink perform the following:

1 - Just below the subject field in the message composition page there is a row of buttons. click the 3rd button from the right - the one that looks like a piece of chain. This will give you a little pop up with 2 text input fields.

2 - In the first input field paste the article URL or address (as shown above)

3 - The text you put in the second input field will become what readers see as the link when they look at your post. For example this could be the title of the article - "Mail delivery a hint of a return to normality" - or it could just be something like "Interesting article about Narby"

4 - Once you have filled in both fields click on "ok" and your link will be inserted into your post looking something like this:
Mail delivery a hint of a return to normality

You can then click on the "Preview" button at the bottom of the message composition window to see what your post will look like to others

See - not that hard right? If it was too hard and you need help drop me a line and i'll see if i can help you.

Happy posting
