Drinking water in Buxton Empty
PostSubject: Drinking water in Buxton   Drinking water in Buxton EmptyThu Feb 19, 2009 2:11 pm

Dena has reported that the water in Buxton is now safe to drink. Has anyone heard anything about either Buxton or other towns water supplies? Should we be boiling it?

There is a lot of confusion regarding water safety. The following is from the Goulburn Valley Water website (see link on links page)

Boiled Water Notice Lifted for Buxton

18 February 2009

Goulburn Valley Water has lifted the boiled water notice for the Buxton water supply system. This means that the water can now be consumed without boiling first.

Managing Director for Goulburn Valley Water Mr Peter Quinn said that Corporation staff were able to restore the water supply Buxton early last week and the disinfection system for the supply was restored on Friday. Testing undertaken early this week has confirmed that the water is again safe to drink.

"Although the Steavenson River catchment area has been devastated our water supply reservoir has not been impacted," said Mr Quinn. "The supply in the reservoir will last for several weeks, which means that we do not need to divert water from the Steavenson River if water quality is poor."

Today's Triangle News reports (in bold) that water should be boiled for drinking in Buxton and Marysville. I reckon I'd be boiling it anyway, just to be on the safe side
